It’s a cold and rainy Saturday. I’m baking an apple pie and my captain is making yet another shelf for more seashells. Good times, y’all.
We don’t have snow on the ground, but some trees do lose their leaves and change color, like this fruit-bearing mulberry.
I snapped a pic of a super active yellow finch in our artichoke plant.
Take the steps up to the second level
and more steps to the highest point of our yard planted in California natives-sages, buckwheat, sumac, and cactus.
A view to the east of Calavera with Mt. Laguna furtherĀ in the distance.
Check out our lawn and house from the hill. It’s a work-in-progress.
I hope everyone is enjoying the last Saturday before 2013!

Love the view
Been snowing here all day. It is pretty but the cold makes me cranky
I hate not being able to go outside!

The pictures are wonderful. They remind me that winter looks different in different parts of the country. It’s cold and snowy here. Happy New Year!

You think YOU have cold???We got our first real snow yesterday with flurries today.OK, so it did’t stick to the roads and the wind isn’t blowing and it will get worse, but still…geeze!
Nice yard! That’s a pretty good size for out there, isn’t it? Nice view; your house is in a cozy little place! I love your pathways and what you have done with the yard.I have to get mine back in ‘shipshape’!
It’s a huge yard for out here, I don’t know why the plot was cut into this big of a shape, but that’s one of the reasons we got it. We have a three story (3 levels) house which is big but super hard to keep warm cos we don’t really have insulation here. Hard to clean too, but that’s another issue! Sorry you had snow, I do remember it from when I lived in Michigan!

Very nice pictures and yard. We are cold here but other than a dusting of snow a week ago no snow here to speak of. Unusual for our part of IL. Happy New Year to you and the Captain!
A very happy new year to you and your “keeper”!

I was in Cali in 2010 and I LOVED the mountain views. Even the snow topped ones in July. Amazing! It’s like the best of both worlds, you have sun and sand, and then drive a few hours and you have snow and ski. Loved the pics
I agree, SoCal is pretty cool, compared with Michigan where I grew up! If you don’t mind horrendous traffic and high prices and too many people, it’s lovely!

We’ve had about 5 in of snow on the ground ever since Christmas. Just when it starts to melt more is dumped on us. It’s very pretty though.
I remember (from Michigan) but I’m glad I don’t live in snow anymore!!

Another seashell shelf… I hope you have very sturdy walls!
Ha ha! he uses those anchor things to attach the shelves. We went walking downtown Carlsbad today and I bought more seashells! I am officially crazy.

You have an awesome blog, interesting, provocative, and artistic. Much luck in 2013!
Wow, a gardener’s paradise. How do you keep up with paradise?
If only we had rain on a regular basis, it’d be so awesome. Mainly we try not to let stuff die!
