My tugboat man brought back some treasures and cool marlinspike seamanship projects he worked on while he abandoned me was away for two months.
What do you think of the captain’s welcome home signs?
This picture frame is huge–2 ft. x 3ft.
This is a close-up view of his masterful work.
My mariner found a float in the harbor and crafted a delicate netting in black.
And then we worked together to make it into a lamp! The base is a piece of driftwood. The captain’s making some fancy knotwork to embellish the shade.
Princess Rosebud was spoiled with a necklace from a craft fair somewhere near where Santa lives.
He fashioned a pretty little handmade tray with copper tubing sides and handles and filled it with shells and driftwood!
We had welcome home festive cocktails of cranberry juice and vodka with a fresh cranberry in our antique champagne glasses.
And yummy ginger cookies…
Our Downton Abbey-inspired dinner table.
His mess, which has since been cleaned up!
Now he has a new project–when he’s not surfing– refinishing a rowboat and making it seaworthy.
Such is the life of a tugboat captain’s wife! I’m a happy girl, that’s for sure!

Don’t forget to wear your life jacket!!!!
I surely will, esp since I’m not a very good swimmer and the capt is annoyingly safety conscious.

You always, without fail, make me laugh out loud!!! It’s a gift…
Well, at least one person thinks I’m funny! That’s a start, anyway…:)

Some Lovely images there. But I really like the boat. It’s only right it should be restored and re-introduced to the water.
That’s just the kind of work he loves to do; he’s restored huge ships and tugboats too! Thank you, I’ll update the pix as the job progresses.

All lovely lovely treasures. Love the lamp and the frame, and the boat and the necklace! So cool that he can make those things. Lucky lucky lady.
And I really love your table. The colours are great! Very inviting.
You have a standing invitation and I’m not kidding!

If I am ever heading that way, I’ll be sure to let you know.
I would love that.
I am very impressed! Is there no end to the man’s talents?
Oh yeah, there’s an end all right. Just haven’t found it yet! In fact, he just made me a bloody mary with jalapeno infused vodka so I’m super happy right now.

Wow, everything is impressive! Especially the row boat and lamp! The ginger cookies look magnificent
Wow … what an awesome Christmas!!! Agree with everything my friend Judy says above, but I wouldn’t mind knocking back one of those cranberry and vodkas with ya!!! Happy holidays!
thank you! Yes, I have no problem agreeing with everyone that I live an enchanted life and I’m very grateful. Come on over for a cocktail anytime, you are right up the road from us, plus my DIL lives in SF and my son who is a Yale prof, is interviewing for jobs at Berkeley and Stanford!
What. Ever!

you do look like you are having a wonderful time. i love your table
That lamp is so cool! I wish my husband would’ve saved some of the stuff he accumulated when he was in the Navy (he should have know he was gonna marry me 20 years later, right?
)
–he should have KNOWN…
Yes, he should have saved stuff for you, you are so crafty!
All of the photographs are great, and I am glad the Captain is back home. One of the things I used to do to kill time while on patrol at sea was skrimshaw. But since we did not have any sperm whale teeth to use I settle for plexiglass. Surprisingly enough it comes out pretty good. I hope ya’ll have a great new year. Take care and God bless you and yours.
I want to see pix of your scrimshaw! And where were you??
I had a habit of giving them away. Mostly on patrol in the Atlantic is when I did that but I also did some in the Med. and Indian ocean, lot of time under water to kill.
wow, have you written of that? I would love to read those posts if it’s something I’ve missed.

Oh so many trinket s & treasures he brings from the sea.. The necklace is beautiful and I love that lamb base too.. very clever..
Now I wonder will you be piloting the new rowboat or merely standing on shore waving the flag?
PS-I’ll trade you something for those two, gorgeous glasses
He’s the only one I’d ever go on a boat with, so I’ll be right next to him while he rows me around! Sorry, my DIL has claimed all the champagne glasses for herself, or I’d consider a trade!
Aw! I love it! So glad he made it home.
He is crafty! Love the knot work, or whatever you call it. Impressive! Glad you had a great Christmas. And I laughed at the mess he left…that IS my kids’ bedrooms on a daily basis!! (kind of embarrassed, but not really) xoxo
Thank you! His mess only lasts as long as it takes him to unpack, so it’s usually only temporary!
Love the frame and the knot work and also the boat.He is talented and will look forward when you can the updates on the boat. Enjoy your cocktail!
Great pictures! Please send me a cookie. Yummmmmmm …..
I wish I could! I shredded fresh ginger along with powdered ging so it was super gingery, which is my Fave!
