Monday
In the midst of the cyclone that is this house–the detritus of planning and packing for my Merchant Mariner’s long assignment–it’s as good a time as any to share a little gratitude, this time to everyone who submitted recipes for the “last meal”.
It was dark and extremely foggy when we made the thirty-five minute drive to the airport at 5:30 a.m. It takes a day and a half for my tugboat man to reach his ultimate destination, and he was worried that a delay could mess everything up, but he just called to let me know he arrived at the first leg of his journey with enough time to catch the next flight.
I should be cleaning but I’m sitting on the sofa watching Jewelry Television based out of Tennessee. It’s fun to watch the low budget sets and extremely nasal Southern accents of the hosts. I promise…just five more minutes and I’m gonna start on the mess. Do I really NEED 3.20 carats Round Mystic Topaz stud earrings? Do I? They’re $39.99. I think NOT. Really. It’s a little too soon to justify any retail therapy.
Sunday
We walked to the beach before the Superbowl–a six-mile round trip. This is what the sun looked like. WTF???
I snapped a pic of this nasty little rodent, perhaps a cousin of the ones who tormented me in the backyard.
When we got home from our walk, I prepared Guapola’s Stuffed Mushrooms and Benzeknees Spinach Salad along with Guacamole and Vegetarian Refried Beans with Flax Seed Chips from Trader Joe’s. He loved all the yummy food!

Many thanks to Running on Sober for her eggplant recipe and Marsella’s Book Ends potato salad recipe. I’m saving those for hub’s welcome home dinner.
OK, the dishes aren’t going to wash themselves, are they?
A little tugboat music…

How long will he be gone? I wish our company could help. For awhile sit around all you want and watch useless TV. It’s like comfort food for a bit.
So right you are, comfort food for sure. I’m like a blob sitting here, ran out of energy, need to recharge. Your company helps a LOT! He should be gone no more than 2 months. months. MONTHS!

Oh boy. Sorry about the departures, but waht you must come to appreciate when you are together! You don’t take a second for granted, and in some ways that’s more superfantastic! It’s more like a great book, anyway. Sorry you have to be in it, but we do love reading it.
I think that’s why DIL encouraged me to start writing, not only to give me something to do besides shopping and cleaning, ha ha, but to share my story, so I’ll make sure she reads your comment and thank you! Hubs and I do try to not take for granted the time we have together, I agree.

I am so glad that you have such a good marriage. I know you miss him but time has a way of flying and he will be home before you know it. Certainly was a strange sun. Food looks good. I also love Trader Joe’s.
I think the secret is that he’s my best friend, too. Thank you for your sweet comment. Traders IS the best!
I agree and think that it is the secret. Yes, Love Traders!
You are a hearty soul, that’s for sure. Thank you for sharing your life, and your food! It’s early morning here and I’m sitting here with my first cup of coffee, yearning to grab some of the plates you have in your photos! Yum. Great post.
I’m having my coffee too, picture me cleaning, that’s what I’ll be doing!
Dinner looked delish! I’m not a big mushroom fan, but man… Those looked great!
Sorry you had to say good-bye again… But oh how you’ll enjoy the hello again.
Gorgeous sun!
You are so right! I appreciate your visit! The sun looked so weird that day!
