Vacuum, Mop, Paper Towels, Wax, and Windex…Do You Know What This Means?

What did YOU accomplish this past weekend?

This is what my Saturday and Sunday looked like…h-armstrong-roberts-woman-with-mop-and-bucket

  • Washed, ironed, re-hung curtains.
  • Washed all the windows; inside and out.
  • Moved all the furniture in the family room, waxed the tile, put it all back.
  • Vacuumed and then wiped sofas and chairs with a barely damp cloth.
  • Dusted and polished all the furniture; piano, and way too many shelves displaying my bounty of seashells.
  • Cleaned out the refrigerator.
  • Started a grocery list. I don’t eat much more than smoothies, hardboiled eggs, salad, and hummus.
  • Created a computer folder of favorite recipes; definitely making Lemon Meringue Cupcakes  — they were THAT good.

fireworksDo you know what all that hustle and bustle was all about?

I’m sure you’ve guessed it by now--my tugboat man’s coming home!

After six weeks; forty-two  LONG days and nights.

Not sure what day exactly, hopefully before the 4th —  fingers crossed anyway.

The remaining days are set aside for welcome home decor and THE VERY IMPORTANT personal maintenance that MAY have been lacking whilst my mariner was out to sea. (Sometimes there is no better word than “whilst” which implies a certain wistfulness, don’t you agree?)

I don’t know if this is how other wives of mariners feel, but I seem to miss him most just before he comes home. It’s like the “missing” part gets put on hold until I know I’m going to see him again.

A little Carole King and James Taylor “So Far Away” is perfect right now.

And how ’bout some INXS “Tear Us Apart”

And yup, I confess, I missed that big surfer — A LOT…The Carpenters “Close to You”

  1. in the 7 hours when you cleaned and dusted and scrubbed, i was on a three-bus journey to get home from the cloud forest!

your husband has a much-longer journey and will surely appreciate your efforts to welcome him home sweet home!

  2. Welcome home, Mr. TugBoat Man!

And I can honestly say the perk of being single (or so I have told myself) is not having to shave my legs as much. Or maybe that is why I am single? LOL

  3. My weekend went like this: Friday – eat pizza for dinner & doze on couch in the heat, stay up late & play games & jigsaws on computer; Saturday – sleep late, play games & jigsaws on computer in between napping in the heat, stay up late to play games & jigsaws on computer; Sunday – same as Saturday; Monday (Canada Day holiday) – same as Sat & Sun. Tomorrow will be a different story if the heat breaks because daughter is coming for a visit on Thursday!

  4. My house misses the deep cleaning I used to do before the hubby returned now that he is retired.I agree about the missing him most right before he returned—self preservation?

    • I believe you’re right about self preservation. What has often happened is when he gets delayed for whatever reason; I won’t be really happy until I have the flight number! I have tried the deep cleaning when he’s home for a couple of months and it’s just not as thorough. Now yours is retired, how’s that going?

  5. Really? Here was my weekend: Washed his clothes, cooked his meals, did his yardwork, ignored his complaining, deflected his criticism (if you only did….), experienced him spending more time on his cell with his buddies then talking to me (maybe a good thing- come to think of it). He left for a fishing trip today. He’ll be gone for the week. Maybe I can convince him to lengthen it to six!

  6. Whilst does have its place. Real cleaning has never been a part of my repertoire. Tasks must put in their request order with three copies dated no closer than four weeks than when last accomplished. Only exceptions are bed linen, clothes washing, dish washing, toilet cleaning.
