That’s the name of the break I sustained.
I slipped and fell in this ditch Sunday evening in our upper yard as I was looking for coyotes in the hill on the other side of our property.
I was wearing flip flops (not smart) and my hand broke my fall, but then I broke my hand.
SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT…
At first I thought it was just a sprain or torn ligaments, but the pain was really, really bad, so I had it X-rayed and the doc confirmed my suspicions.
I’m in a removable cast for about six weeks — no weightlifting but I can do anything else that doesn’t cause pain.
My hand is super swollen and all bruised up, too.
I might not be able to lift weights, but there’s nothing to prevent me from shopping!
I never did see any coyotes but I snapped a pic of this amazing hawk in our eucalyptus tree.

Ugh, that’s awful! I hope it heals quickly. Do they have you taking Vit D to promote healing of the bones?

nope, but that’s smart. I’ll increase mine, I take it daily. You’re very knowledgeable!

I am prone to very low vit D though I’ve never broken a bone, touch wood, and when they started me on supplements I did some research. My dad also had to take it when he broke his foot and it helped a lot. Just make sure you don’t overdo it as it can be toxic at too high a level in your blood stream.

You should be ok. I had to be given 100,000 at a time because my blood levels were so far below normal. If you are in the normal range stick with what you are doing, if you above normal you need to be careful.

Ouch. I had a yard in Salt Lake like that, too. Sorry to sound like your mother, but I learned to work butt facing valley (lower yard), so if I did fall it wouldn’t be head first. I miss that yard.

🙂 Oh, I didn’t mean for this one. I’m sure you did every move you could, it’s that I’m such a klutz, I’ve tried to train myself to save the head. Sometimes you’re down before know it. Or lose your car in a parking lot before you know it. Or speeding to pass a cop before you know it. Or buying those new shoes before you know it.

I’ve broken my ankles several times LOL! I’m a HORRIBLE patient cos I’m a control freak and like to do everything myself. My way. But I do like to be pampered!

I understand how these things can happen before you know it. I actually broke a toe when I fell out of bed. I woke up when I hit the floor, so I have NO idea how it happened! The x-ray techs were quite amused.

My hand was so swollen, I should never have put the rings on but thank you! Right now I’m gluing sparkly things to that brace/cast. New project 🙂

Wow. I’ve had an avulsion of my ankle but never knew it–thought it was just a bad sprain and I let everyone talk me out of going for an x-ray. I hope your hand heals quickly and you’re not in too much pain. Beautiful picture of the hawk. Glad the Captain is home to lend a hand or two.

Coyotes and Mountain Lions?!! Wow! I am impressed. Growing up in the desert, I’m very familiar with coyotes, but that doesn’t mean I’d ever want to work with them… and all the big cats freak me out. I think they are beautiful and majestic and completely captivating, and I wouldn’t ever want to be close to any of them.

Hey, it was Bob Farner’s Animal place in Vista and he was a tortured WW2 prison camp survivor and when he got out he devoted his life to caring for animals because humans ware too horrible. He was awesome, and I took my son’s 2nd grade class there for a field trip and then my son and I volunteered and that’s how I got to have a mountain lion suck my thumb, I brushed Hildy the wolf, and loved on some coyotes and deer and it was amazing. No pain meds at all! Just the truth my friend. I wanted my son to have love and compassion for animals…

I fractured the same bone in my right hand a couple years ago. The little piece of bone that fractured off never did re-attach & is now sitting in the bendable part of my wrist where I have a little lump. 6 weeks in a cast, 6 weeks of therapy & I now have a permanent disability according to Workers Compensation. I have trouble opening jars or lifting heavy things. Hope you don’t end up the same way. Once fractured it never really heals the same way again.
