It’s HOT.
6:30 a.m. and already 85 degrees. There are some monsoonal clouds drifting by and a bit of wind, but no rain.
I don’t think the temp has ever been this high this early, not that I can remember, anyway.
We are in an extended high heat warning. It was nearly one hundred degrees yesterday. Scorching, brutally hot.
It’s not often that we have humidity but that’s what made it all so unpleasant. Several records were broken. Climate change, anyone?
It was too hot to go outside. Because of the fires around here, air quality was poor.
And then critters started invading the house.
I heard the raucous chirping of a cricket and located the sound coming from the dining room.
Then, the family room was invaded by dozens of diminutive flying insects that seemed to have materialized out of nowhere.
A lizard clung to the patio screen door. I told him it wasn’t any cooler inside–there’s no air conditioning and he’d fare better by hiding in the shade of a rock.
I filled a bowl with water for my bobcat and coyote family.
I’m now waiting for the locusts.
Incredible. In the UK we’ve had an unusually long period of sustained heat, but it is starting now to return to an autumnal normal, which is a relief for all. I hope the same happens for you soon!

Thank you! My son and fam were in the UK and experienced that heat too (DIL is from there) and now it’s here. SO unusual. Stay safe!

No A/C? That sounds absolutely miserable!

We live near a lagoon and not too far from the ocean so we usually have lovely breezes even though we can have 100 degree days, normally with very low humidity, not like this. Have never really needed AC.

Global warming, indeed. I hope it passes quickly, or even better, you get a vacation to someplace else!

That always sounds good, but it seems like it’s hot everywhere!

Yikes! In stark contrast, after a cloudy, drizzly day yesterday, I got up this morning to our back up heaters blowing – warming up a 65° living room. We didn’t have a/c until about a decade ago, and boy has it been nice.

I’ve never really known such high humidity here with high temps but there seems to be relief in the next week or so, maybe even rain this weekend if we’re lucky.

I do hope things have gotten a little more tolerable now

SLIGHTLY cooler at night, but we’re in for another heatwave, so the warning has been extended!
