I couldn’t find the special eclipse glasses we used in 2017 even though I know I saved them, so I used a colander and it made some really awesome crescents on a white background. The sun was only about 70% obscured here, no ring of fire, but super cool to safely experience.

Here’s a relevant poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850 – 1919)
A SOLAR ECLIPSE
In that great journey of the stars through space
About the mighty, all-directing Sun,
The pallid, faithful Moon, has been the one
Companion of the Earth. Her tender face,
Pale with the swift, keen purpose of that race,
Which at Time’s natal hour was first begun,
Shines ever on her lover as they run
And lights his orbit with her silvery smile.
Sometimes such passionate love doth in her rise,
Down from her beaten path she softly slips,
And with her mantle veils the Sun’s bold eyes,
Then in the gloaming finds her lover’s lips.
While far and near the men our world call wise
See only that the Sun is in eclipse.
Be glad you didnt, those glasses actually have an expiration on them and the material starts to fade and may not protect your eyes after about a year or so. Lots of warning s were given put about that in 2017 just prior to that one.. we will get the full one here in 2024 though cant wait to see it again. Today was overcast so it was just dark

Thank you for that! I didn’t know at all that they deteriorate. I saved them for memories cos it was an amazing experience with my son and we still talk about it. I don’t normally misplace things so it was definitely lucky. The colander idea was pretty cool though. I want to see the 2024 one too!!!!

I get that, we bought a sheet of the stamps that year as well, they were cool because you can expose them to light and the sun disappears amd gives you the ring. They are kinda cool. We are real close to where it will be 100% again. Between the one in 2017 and next year it makes an x over us.
