SHAME ON SIERRA CLUB.
They published an essay by a subhuman who killed a wolf to see what it felt like.
For the “experience.”
I am beyond shocked and disgusted by this story in Sierra Magazine, the author, and Sierra Club.
I became a member to contribute to the advocacy for saving, protecting, and respecting animals and our environment.
I do not want to read a detailed accounting of blood lust and thrill killing.
I will cancel my membership immediately and never again support them.
This is not a memorial. This is a snarling and bloodthirsty celebration of animal murder.
I’m ashamed to think that my membership dollars might have in any way contributed to this repulsive article.

A little research reveals Sierra Club’s Mission Statement:
To explore, enjoy and protect the planet. To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out those objectives.
“To explore, enjoy, and protect the planet.”
It doesn’t say their goal is to promote the tracking, killing, and subsequent emotions from taking the life of an innocent animal.
Am I the only one that read this and was outraged?
Why aren’t they on the front lines protecting the wolf from delisting and slaughter?

I used to support the Sierra Club until I found out that they endorse hunting, but this is beyond horrible. I’m glad you shared it so others can be aware.

I’m not sure why I lend your blog my traffic. Did you read the article? Nowhere does it endorse the killing of wolves. Jesus.
“On a crisp autumn day I attended the black wolf’s funeral. A member of a group called Friends of Romeo, formed years earlier to try to protect the Juneau wolf, stood atop a granite boulder and addressed the crowd with his arms spread wide.
“Romeo was a friend,” he began. “He was dealt a bad hand of cards when he was born inside the body of a big, bad wolf.” A well-known Alaskan author mournfully collapsed, and the next speaker began to recite Sufi poetry. I decided I’d had enough and went for a walk.”
I’ll give you that it’s not a particularly well written article (neither is yours), but the writer is offering a contemplation on the relationship of human v nature/nature v human. Even offering his own experiences and past-struggle with the inclination to commit violence. And here, when the author is offering up a peaceful reflection on challenging human tendency towards violence you, dear blogger, swoop in to act as a hate monger.

What. Ever. The title of the Sierra Mag article is meant to incite. It speaks of killing and skinning.
My husband and I didn’t join SC to read about killing animals and bloodlust, I want to SAVE them.
Quote: “The wolves in my life include one I wanted to shoot”
And quote: ” I chambered a round into my .22 rifle. The bullet would strike the wolf between the eyes, puncture a small hole in its skull, and destroy enough of its brain to kill it instantly. Only 16 and I would have killed a wolf. I switched off the rifle’s safety, the cold touch of the wood stock on my cheek.”
And quote: ” …soon we were talking about hunting, trapping, and wolves.”
And by the way, mine is a blog, not an article, and my voice is my own, and your throwaway comment about my writing; which, in your opinion, “it a particularly well written article (neither is yours) is indicative of a petty and defensive position.
I love animals. I don’t eat animals. I want to save animals. It’s that simple.
And if you don’t want my contribution, block me.

I just tweeted him. I had no idea this went on. Once again, not man’s inhumanity to man, but man’s inhumanity to animals. Your post should be circulated where more people will see it. Thanks for letting me know.

Others on FB have told me that Sierra Club has a history of supporting and promoting hunting. I had NO idea or I would never have become a member. I feel very betrayed and dirty. Thank you so much for helping to spread the truth.

I was gobsmacked when I saw that article and then did a bit of digging and found out they support hunting. It’s hard to fathom considering their mission statement doesn’t reveal that. I wish I could get a refund for all my years of membership and donate it to an animal rescue.

I was so shocked by just that title that I did a little digging and found out that SC is not very animal-friendly. I guess it pays to not take things at face value…
