In my garden, this Mourning Dove family and I peacefully co-exist.

According to All About Birds, this is a graceful, slender-tailed, small-headed dove that’s common across the continent. Mourning Doves perch on telephone wires and forage for seeds on the ground; their flight is fast and bullet straight. Their soft, drawn-out calls sound like laments. When taking off, their wings make a sharp whistling or whinnying.
However, this fact is really upsetting to me: Mourning Doves are the most frequently hunted species in North America. Who could possibly want to murder these gentle creatures? Once again, humans suck.
We have doves in our neighborhood, even on our own roof. They get the cats watching out the window all worked up! I love their soft coos.

Theo thought he was hearing an owl, I also love their mournful coos. They were right next to me as I was gardening. So cool!

We have owls, too, so I have worked hard to distinguish their calls. The owl has a longer and more forceful call. The doves are soft and gentle. Sweet.

Nature is beyond amazing. Sometimes the owls wake me up in the middle of the night and it makes me happy.

A time or two, I heard an owl right outside my bedroom window deep in the night. It was strong, eery, and comforting in an odd way. The nesting pair often goes out of their way to show me the nest and their babies! I guess sending them good vibes when I walk through is noticed.
