It’s a Pink Kitty Cat Kind of Day

“Owl or kitty cat, what will it be?”

“PINK!”

“What kind of birthday cake should I make for you? Pink owl or pink kitty cat?”

“Pink PIGGY!”

Too late, I already baked and decorated a little pink strawberry frosted kitty cat cake with a pink sparkly collar.

Two-years-old today; bright and beautiful.

This cake might not win any design awards at The Great British Baking Show, but it was a total hit with one particular little girl who loves the color pink and all kitty cats.

Happy Birthday, little princess!

Happy Solar Return!

Here’s a unique and cool way to wish someone “Happy Birthday!”

“Happy Solar Return!”

It was the occasion of MY solar return and one of my gifts was an A M A Z I N G windchime.

I thought all chimes were pretty much the same with only slight variations in tonality and musicality, but I was SO wrong.

Apparently there’s a whole world of chime tones and chimemakers. What a beautiful passion to share with us!

I don’t know much about music, but when I heard these chimes for the first time, it was as grand-sounding as a symphony.

Of course, I had to research the company. Woodstock Chimes are the original musically-tuned wind chimes, tuned to appealing melodies and scales from around the world.

The company was started in 1979 by self-proclaimed “old hippie” and Grammy Award winner Garry Kvistad.

My chime gift is called the Tree of Life, adorned with crystal accents along with “soothing sounds that offer tranquility and space for reflection”.

“With its promise of eternal life, the Tree of Life myth exists across cultures and dates back to ancient times. It is a representation of mankind, symbolizing how we are rooted on the earth even while we are reaching for the stars…two birds are nestled in the tree’s branches with crystal accents in a bright, bold green; the color of growth, renewal and spring.”

This was a splendid way to celebrate my solar return! I sure wish I was at that lake, but this is a much better photo than the ones I took. Mine is hanging on my deck and the crystals catch the sun and scatter all the colors of the rainbow.

The Big Four-OH-MY-GOODNESS

March is the birthday month the two Angels share but there’s no way I have a child/boy/man who turned forty today at 9:42 a.m. NO WAY.

In my mind, I still see him as being four or eight or even as an obnoxious and sarcastic teenager, but FORTY?? A dad with two kids? AND a fully tenured professor?

It’s not possible. I’m still shaking my head.

I needed to do the math to make absolutely sure I was correct and there’s no doubt about it. I gave birth to the original Angel Boy forty years ago today after a seemingly neverending 24 hour labor that resulted in an emergency Caesarean section.

Stubborn girl that I am, I tried and tried to push him out but his gigantic head got stuck (TMI) and I only capitulated to the C-section when I saw his heart rate was being compromised. I really wanted that whole Mother Earth experience but of course would never harm my baby boy to satiate my ego. I can always look at that perpetually lopsided scar where the surgeon had to open me up FAST between contractions.

He’ll always be the love of my life, my shiniest and most lovely baby boy.

Even today, I can feel the weight of him hugged tightly in my arms, despite the fact that he’s now over six feet and no longer sits on my lap (‘cos that would be just plain WEIRD.) This is one of my favorite photos if we can ignore my horrible haircut where she obviously didn’t know how much curly hair SHRINKS when it’s not styled properly.

I am forever grateful for this sparkly emerald green-eyed boy.

He called me a bit ago. What’s he doing on his birthday? He took the day off so he could go to the Dirt Exchange, fill the car up with soil and mulch, and spend the day gardening. He has a green thumb to match those eyes.
