Enchanting Friends

As if on cue, summer finally arrived during the solstice with intense heat and abundant sunshine. Around Casa de Enchanted Seashells, a couple new friends visit every day.

Here’s my Red Shouldered hawk, who looks directly at me as he scouts the garden for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He’s so, so gorgeous.

He’s always on the same branch in my ash tree.

This BIG skunk is probably the same one who sprayed my neighbor’s dog not once, but twice. The photo is a bit grainy because it was almost dark and I was way closer than I should have been. If I had startled him, I’d still be bathing in tomato juice right now!

What’s Black and White and Adorable?

I don’t really know what possessed me to look out my bedroom window at 8pm last night, but I’m glad I did because I was able to meet my new garden visitor, Pepe LePew!

I took this not great photo through the window because I didn’t want to scare my new skunk friend. He strolled through the lawn, dug some grubs out of the soil, and was generally a kind and considerate guest.

Best of all, he’s now joining the other predators like my bobcat, coyote, hawk, owl, possum, and the occasional roadrunner to de-rat my backyard. Even raccoons feast on rats now and again, so I hope my animal family enjoy all they find. I’m exceedingly grateful for their efforts!

The spiritual meaning of seeing a skunk is often associated with self-awareness, introspection, boundaries, and self-respect. Skunks are known for their ability to protect themselves with their strong scent when threatened, symbolizing self-defense and independence.

I hope to see your babies one day, too!

Are you thinking about Pepé Le Pew? I’m thinking this is another beneficial creature that enjoys a stroll around the garden along with the coyotes and bunnies and possums and raccoons. I don’t include rats or ground squirrels in that group ‘cos I really really don’t like them!
