Poetic Truth : Pity The Nation

We are living in sad and scary times. Lawrence Ferlinghetti wrote the poem “Pity the Nation” in 2007, drawing inspiration from Khalil Gibran’s original work of the same title, published in 1933. Their words are a reminder about the cycles of history.

We’ve been warned.

PITY THE NATION

Pity the nation whose people are sheep
   And whose shepherds mislead them
Pity the nation whose leaders are liars
            Whose sages are silenced
And whose bigots haunt the airwaves
Pity the nation that raises not its voice
          Except to praise conquerers
And acclaim the bully as hero
And aims to rule the world
              By force and by torture
          Pity the nation that knows
No other language but its own
And no other culture but its own
Pity the nation whose breath is money
And sleeps the sleep of the too well fed
Pity the nation oh pity the people
who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away
               My country, tears of thee
                   Sweet land of liberty!
 Lawrence Ferlinghetti, 2007

PITY THE NATION
By Khalil Gibran, 1933

Pity the nation that is full of beliefs and empty of religion.

Pity the nation that wears a cloth it does not weave, eats a bread it does not harvest, and drinks a wine that flows not from its own wine-press.

Pity the nation that acclaims the bully as hero, and that deems the glittering conqueror bountiful.

Pity the nation that despises a passion in its dream, yet submits in its awakening.

Pity the nation that raises not its voice save when it walks in a funeral, boasts not except among its ruins, and will rebel not save when its neck is laid between the sword and the block.

Pity the nation whose statesman is a fox, whose philosopher is a juggler, and whose art is the art of patching and mimicking.

Pity the nation that welcomes its new ruler with trumpetings, and farewells him with hootings, only to welcome another with trumpetings again.

Pity the nation whose sages are dumb with years and whose strong men are yet in the cradle.

Pity the nation divided into fragments, each fragment deeming itself a nation.

Bad Times in the United States

It’s becoming more and more difficult to ignore that absolute shitshow that’s going on in this country since that orange POS and his puppet master muskrat defrauded the election in November.

And yes, I truly believe that his “winning” was not the will of the people; with muskrat’s help and maybe aided by a foreign government, there is a growing fear that the vote was tampered with.

I can’t imagine what the rest of the world thinks about us. The deteriorating relationships with our friends in Canada and Mexico is hard to believe, but it’s all real.

We are living a worst case scenario.

While all this is going on, yesterday my local congressman posted smiling pics of himself in my city having a cup of coffee at a local place like democracy isn’t burning to the ground. Talk about not reading the room! You should have seen all the comments telling him to get back to DC and DO SOMETHING to stop this madness.

As much as I try to stay away from watching the news and becoming overwhelmed with dread, THIS can’t be ignored, no matter how hard I try:

From the BBC (as I no longer trust most US based news sources):

The Trump administration has given Elon Musk’s deputies access to the federal payments system that controls the flow of trillions of dollars in government funds every year, US media report.

[From Enchanted Seashells: To clarify, this includes Social Security payments, social security numbers, and banking information for those who get direct deposit.]

Reports suggest members of Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) – which is not a government department, but a team within the administration – have been granted access to sensitive personal information of millions of Americans.

Two officials at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were reportedly placed on leave after a standoff with Doge members over access.

Open Portals 11/11 and Wild Things

November 11 is supposed to be a special day because 11/11 aligns in perfect numeric harmony to open a powerful doorway for spiritual growth.

This 11/11 cosmic portal event is supposed to help us connect more deeply with our true self. Right now I think we need a collective activation to clear out all the negative energies on this planet.

Just in time for this intense cosmic portal catalyst and when all else fails, nature is a comfort. My hawk stopped by for a visit to cheer me up. Yes, I was this close to her and yes, she is spectacular.

With her proud profile, she brings keen eyesight, patience, and trust. Get the rats, my friend!

A hawk visit is a sign from the spirit realm that we are ready to take on a larger, more powerful expansion and vision of our world. The hawk symbolizes a need to start looking forward, envisioning the path ahead, and perhaps even preparing for a greater role in life.

Many believe that the hawk is a messenger, bringing a message from the spirit of the departed. It’s often interpreted as a sign that your loved one is watching over you and that they are at peace,

I can tell you that I know for certain that my mom, if she was alive, would be DISGUSTED with the election results and especially the total annihilation of our reproductive rights. I thought we’d never go back but here we are.

Come on 11/11 portal, do SOMETHING!
