Leon Russell Captured On A Wall in Tulsa

This is a cool story…

According to the artist, jeks, “This year I painted over an old Leon Russell mural that I painted a long time ago with a new Leon Russell mural in Tulsa, OK and it almost caused a riot. This is the new one. Riot averted.”

This was the original Leon wall art:

It seemed as if every single Leon fan thought the previous mural was being destroyed, and immediately began to text, email, and call in protest. It turned out that the original artist was merely updating it…WHEW!

I’m not sure that anyone else has been able to capture his beauty and expressive eyes as masterfully as Brian Lewis (jeks) has done.

Here’s the newly painted version. Check out Leon’s EYES.

If I’m ever lucky enough to get to Tulsa, I’m going to visit the Blue Dome District to see this mural in person. It’s so realistic, as if Leon could pop out of the brick at any time.

What’s a more perfect place for a Master of Space and Time mural than on 3rd Street? This area is home to the Church Studio, a music studio turned museum purchased by Leon Russell in the 1970s, where you can explore iconic memorabilia from his life and walk in the shoes of so many famous artists that walked through the doors.

Jeks is a North Carolina graffiti artist and muralist. https://jeksone.com/

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💖

I don’t care if it’s become a commercialized celebration or not; I LOVE Valentine’s Day and always have.

A gifted seashell or a Chanel brings the same amount of joy; it’s the thought that counts.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we’re in the midst of February’s Full Snow Moon. While we’re enjoying some much needed rain so I can’t actually see the moon, I know she’s up there, shining her light on us. This is a time to step into personal power, trust in the shifts that are happening, and believe that everything is aligning for a better, more fulfilling future.

From Leon Russell’s album, Moonlight & Love Songs, here’s the standard, My Funny Valentine. I love Leon’s arrangement, his voice, the song, the Nashville Symphony– everything about it!

The album features Jim Price, Edgar Winter, and Bruce Hornsby.

I hope everyone enjoys a day (and life) full of love. 🎩 💕

Leon Russell 🎩 Bluebird

The world lost Leon Russell eight years ago on November 13, 2016. He was and will always be the absolutely gorgeous Master of Space and Time. He is so very missed. I hope that our collective and continued love for Leon offers his family some small comfort as they remember his life. We will never forget him or his musical genius that still brings so much joy.

According to his mother, Leon Russell’s first words happened as a result of observing some birds…“What’s the matter little birdie, you cry?” She was shocked because Leon had never before spoken. For some reason, that sweet story touches my heart. Maybe it was a bluebird.

This Mary Oliver poem about a bluebird seems to convey what I can’t figure out how to say.

What Gorgeous Thing

I do not know what gorgeous thing
the bluebird keeps saying,
his voice easing out of his throat,
beak, body into the pink air
of the early morning. I like it
whatever it is. Sometimes
it seems the only thing in the world
that is without dark thoughts.
Sometimes it seems the only thing
in the world that is without
questions that can’t and probably
never will be answered, the
only thing that is entirely content
with the pink, then clear white
morning and, gratefully, says so. — Mary Oliver
