Maitri: loving kindness and compassion for oneself, to reveal a profound essence that leads to personal growth, the ultimate self care.
Maitriis one of the four virtues of Buddhism, collectively known as Brahmaviharas or ‘the immeasurables’.
The term maitri can be translated from Sanskrit as loving-kindness or benevolence, The concept is central to the Buddhist practice of loving-kindness meditation and is also referenced in ancient Hindu and Jain scriptures.
Maitri was one of the themes of Buddhist teacher and author, Pema Chodron. In her book How to Meditate: A Practical Guide to Making Friends with Your Mind, she describes maitri as “unconditional friendliness,” not only towards others but towards oneself.
For maitri toward oneself, try this affirmation: “May I be happy, healthy, safe, and live with ease.”
Positive affirmations + the practice of infinite gratitude are two concepts I incorporate into my daily life.
In Hawaiian culture it is said that each person is born with a bowl of light.
This light is the light of consciousness and love.
Each time we give way to negative emotions such as jealousy or hate, a stone appears in the bowl and the light is diminished.
Sometimes it seems that the weight of the accumulated stones will extinguish the light forever.
Hawaiian spiritual teachers say it is always possible to tip the bowl over, empty the stones, and live again in the embrace of the miraculous light we were gifted at birth.
For more on this beautiful concept, read The Bowl of Light by Hank Wesselman. In 1996, a revered Hawaiian elder befriended an American anthropologist, and from their rare and intimate rapport, something miraculous emerged. Through the words and teachings of the kahuna wisdom-keeper Hale Makua, Dr. Wesselman was gifted with an enhanced perspective into the sacred knowledge of ancient Hawaii.
This is a special time of year. Let’s hope that we have mostly defeated the virus and that 2022 will be the best year ever.
It seems as if a lot of us have been living in our own chrysalis and the time is right to break free and transform into a dazzling butterfly.
I feel that this is the right time to share these thoughts from Natalia Alba:
Today a wisdom portal opens. One that this day 11/11 introduces and that will continue with the Eclipse in Taurus, together with the Solstice on December 21, and lastly, the second Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 4th.
Eclipses that kindly and progressively initiate us into the New Year, a year for us to anchor harmony and continue with the changes that we have already started during this changing and hence, transitional year.
Today we welcome energies that help us descend the wisdom, the revelations, especially with Scorpion energies among us, bringing all the clarity we need to continue with the creation of that which will benefit All.
For the majority of us, as ascending souls, came to work in unity within Divine Love for All, not just for the self, as it is when we come to experience a more individual human journey.
Today is a day in which we also begin a new initiation, one that will reach its peak in the Taurus eclipse, with the stellar frequencies that we will receive, and that will help us to continue with the activation of our light bodies, an inner work that we began even before the Lions Gate on August 8th.
Crystalline energies that are already being anchored on the Earth’s Grids and that once integrated, as many grid workers are assisting with this too, we will pass to embody and work with.
This is why these last months of the year is pivotal that we work with the dissolution of past timelines if we truly desire to manifest anew, rather than continue bringing energy from the past.Feeling tired at this time is totally natural, as our bodies are massively integrating-releasing, and we shall be compassionate witnesses of our own process, as well as Earth’s one, and give our bodies what they need if we do not want to run out of energy and feel exhausted at every moment. It is better to stop for a few days than continue creating from a space of total pain, tiredness, and non-clarity.
Protect and honor your body. There are many energies and not all of them have the same benevolent nature. Do not take what is not yours to experience. Work with energetic sovereignty in these transitional times, for it is the only way in which you could differentiate between authentic guidance and the manipulated one that often is very similar.
Creating healthy boundaries and learning how our bodies and energy works is one of the most important things that we should do, during our journey of remembering how to become, again, master sovereign beings.
As Scorpion energies invite us to do, at this time, taking some time to rebirth into the Illumined Being that we already are, is essential. It is a time for us to surrender and prepare our bodies for what this new cycle, that we have already consciously created, from within, will bring us.
On this beautiful new moon Lion’s Gate day, I woke up extra early to walk to the beach and back, about six miles or so. I like to get home before the blazing sun gives me heatstroke.
As I walked past the house of a friend of a friend who’s a Shamanic practitioner, I heard her voice in my head saying, “You’re in danger.”
I mean, I heard it as clear as if she was standing next to me. I actually looked around to see if she WAS there. It was absolutely the furthest thing from my mind. I was focused on a spectacular morning, walking to the ocean, and awesome exercise.
In the old days, I would have ignored these voices, messages, warnings, but I have learned to pay attention.
“Oh well” I said to myself. “Forewarned is forearmed.” Right?
A couple blocks further, I noticed about five crows sitting on a fence. I swear, one of them looked right at me. I said, “Hi cousin”, because that’s how I always refer to my crow family.
One by one, they flew in front of me and away.
Hmmm. This was a bit strange but not dangerous.
I continued to walk. On the next block, I saw smoke billowing out of the garage roof of a house on the corner, It didn’t smell like barbecue-type smoke, so I knocked on the door. I knocked and knocked and no one answered. I walked back around the corner in time to see five foot flames and a woman throwing a bucket of water on them but it seemed as if that wasn’t working. At this point, other neighbors came out and we all called the fire department at the same time. The fire was quickly extinguished but it could have been really bad because the garage was packed with things and the entire house could have been lost.
Was that the danger I needed to be aware of? Where there’s smoke, there’s fire???
I continued my Odyssean-like journey to Lake Pacific. Not only were there no waves, but I didn’t see whales or dolphin, either.
Walking home, I looked down and saw a crow feather. A few feet away, I saw another, and this one I picked up and put in my backpack.
At a four-way stop, I crossed the street in the crosswalk. There were cars at all the stop signs, but I was clearly in the middle of the street when a car decided to inch forward, ignoring the obvious fact that my visible body was right there. I looked at the driver. He looked at me. I said WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ARE YOU DOING and other un-princessy things like that. He continued, as if to hurry me along.
OH HELL NO.
This former Detroit ghetto girl still has the ability to be a stubborn beeyotch. I slowed down to a snail’s pace — so slow that a sloth would have won the race — while the people in the other cars gave me a thumbs up and shook their heads at the nerve of that entitled Range Rover. WTF was that all about?
When I eventually made it to the other side of the intersection, I wondered if THAT was the danger I needed to protect myself from?
The remainder of the walk was uneventful. I’m home now, the sky is blue, it’s sheets changing day. Maybe I’ll spritz a little Chanel on my thousand thread count linens to greet me tonight and envelop my body in the lingering fragrance of Chance.
I don’t have any tattoos and I don’t believe I’ll ever get one, but if I did, I might choose this Sanskrit symbol.
Instead of a tattoo, maybe I’ll frame it and hang on a wall somewhere where I can be reminded to breathe, especially since I’m aware that I hold my breath a lot, almost as if I’m anticipating something dreadful to occur.
Ah, proof there are still glittery sprinkles of enchantment in my little world. Or maybe more accurately; otherwordly.
I was diligently washing the deck yesterday, fully immersed in my terra firma (not on a ladder) project, looking down as I scrubbed the redwood planks before they dried in the sunshine. I can’t exactly recall why I looked up but I am SO GLAD I DID I because this rare and beautiful sight made me gasp: a rain’ess rainbow! I noted the time: it was close to high noon.
Check out my Sun Dog/Sun Bow!
They are iridescent rainbow clouds without a drop of rain in sight. This phenomenon is known as cloud iridescence or irisation. It’s a type of photometeor.
The term “sun dog” (or mock sun) originates from Greek mythology. It was believed the god Zeus walked his dogs across the sky and that the bright “false suns” in the sky on either side of the sun’s disk were the dogs.
A sundog is seen about 22° to the left or right of the Sun. Sundogs often form in pairs on either side of the Sun. Often they appear white but sometimes they are quite colorful, looking like patches of rainbow. The colors usually go from red closest to the Sun, out to blue on the outside of the sundog.
Probably the biggest difference between a sundog and a rainbow is that a rainbow usually signals an end to rain, while a sundog can mean that rain or snow is on the way. Next time you see a sundog, look out for wet weather! https://www.almanac.com/what-are-sundogs#
However, here in very DRY Southern California, there is no moisture in the forecast.
The rainbow always held special significance among the different Native American Indian Nations. It is connected to the Spirit (Supreme God/Creator/Source/All-That-Is) in all things. There are many prophecies and stories from the Cree, the Hopi, the Zuni, and the Cherokee related to the rainbow warriors.
One source says: “While meteorologists have a physical understanding of the circular rainbow around the sun, wisdom keepers of the Americas and Tibet have complementary spiritual understandings about this dramatic omen around the Sun which is known as the Whirling Rainbow or the Sunbow.”
For some native people, the Sunbow or Whirling Rainbow is considered to be a sign from Creator, marking a time of great change, or transition on the Earth. This full-circle rainbow around the Sun, some elders say, can be understood as a sign to people of the necessity to live a life in respect and harmony with all the creations that make life possible: plants, animals, waters, minerals, fires, winds, and other human beings.” https://lifeheartandsoulblog.wordpress.com/2011/02/27/rainbow-around-the-sun/
According to the prophecy, “There will come a day when people of all races, colors, and creeds will put aside their differences. They will come together in love, joining hands in unification, to heal the Earth and all Her children. They will move over the Earth like a great Whirling Rainbow, bringing peace, understanding and healing everywhere they go. Many creatures thought to be extinct or mythical will resurface at this time; the great trees that perished will return almost overnight. All living things will flourish, drawing sustenance from the breast of our Mother, the Earth.
The great spiritual Teachers who walked the Earth and taught the basics of the truths of the Whirling Rainbow Prophecy will return and walk amongst us once more, sharing their power and understanding with all. We will learn how to see and hear in a sacred manner. Men and women will be equals in the way Creator intended them to be; all children will be safe anywhere they want to go. Elders will be respected and valued for their contributions to life. Their wisdom will be sought out. The whole Human race will be called The People and there will be no more war, sickness or hunger forever.” Navajo-Hopi Prophecy of the Whirling Rainbow
I curated info from a few different sources. I have never before experienced this marvelous sky show. I watched it until it disappeared and was lucky enough to snap a few photos to remember an enchanted and precious moment in time.
I love all phases of the moon but I especially search for the full moon no matter where I am, whether it’s in the desert or the mountains or at the beach or even if it’s at my house–mama moon always makes her presence known and felt.
Tonight’s moon after the clouds is so bright!
I know it’s not really pink but that’s only a slight disappointment. Tonight’s full moon is also a super moon which means that the moon is full while also in perigee, or closest approach to Earth.
It’s actually referred to as a Pink Moon because Moss Phlox are in full bloom during this season.
I found this awesome YouTube video with all of the healing sounds and frequencies and thought I’d share it so everyone has plenty of time to dedicate to this experience.
It starts at 14hz and moves to 12.5hz at 4.20 minutes; 6.35 minutes it moves to 7.83hz (Schumann Resonance) for 12 minutes, then drops to 0.5hz until the end. There is an underlying base frequency of 432hz which is enhanced within the music as well. The music has an underlying frequency of 285Hz.
I hope you enjoy this. I like to use headphones but it’s not 100% necessary. Don’t forget to charge your crystals!
I looked up and there it was displayed in a beautiful horizontal position in the blueblue sky, so I ran inside to grab my camera and my phone. When I returned, it was still there, thank goodness.
My question is this: is it a feather or a cloud? A cloud or a feather? What do you think? Is there symbolism or is it simply a cloud that looks like a white feather?
Even taken from different perspectives, still the same.
I have found a few white feathers here and there and I wonder if a sky feather symbolizes these same spiritual qualities???
White feathers imply purity, peace, love, hope, heaven, angels, and protection. It’s also a message from our ancestors that everything is well on the other side and is a blessing of wisdom in connection with the moon. White feathers significantly mean that everything is okay; a reminder to keep the faith and stay strong. (https://www.speakingtree.in/allslides/white-feather-meaning-and-symbolism/the-feather-implies)
